Cyber Brama. Building a secure website about online safety

Task: Develop a website that contains all the information necessary to understand safe online behavior and teach users how to prevent criminal activities in cyberspace. The project’s complexity was due to four separate teams implementing it simultaneously: the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine, the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, the MINZMIN NGO, and us at Yedynka DGTL. Reliability was essential for the customer: a platform for promoting online safety had to be free of vulnerabilities.

Solution: Creating a Cybersecurity website with open-source solutions was a no-go, and popular platforms like WordPress were scrapped for the high likelihood of being targeted by cyberattacks. Therefore, we offered an optimal solution: building the website on our proprietary content management system Y-CMS. It helps conveniently create, manage, and maintain website content, withstands high loads, and, most importantly, is licensed and secure.

Communication
First, we established the rules and roles for each team and set up communication to ensure maximum effectiveness and avoid delays. Weekly stakeholder briefings let us promptly discuss all issues, share interim results, and discuss further actions. This kept the teams moving in the same direction and enabled clear-cut areas of responsibility for each party.

Prototyping
During the first development stage, we discussed all project phases in detail, laid out the solution’s architecture, and determined the website sections required, their functionality, and content.
Prototyping is extremely important. The success of the entire project depends on how thoroughly it is approached. Therefore, our team allocated a lot of time for this stage. Considering everything in detail at the beginning is much more expedient than making changes and pivoting as you go. This simplifies developers’ work and helps optimize the use of the customer’s budget.

Design
It’s hard to overstate how crucial UX is for websites nowadays. If you want to retain users and make them stay longer, your website must be simple, intuitive, and aesthetic.
The brand book provided by the client established the general direction (logos, main colors, and fonts) but left enough room for creativity. We prepared several mood boards for the customer to choose from, and later—three distinct design concepts.
Once the concept was finalized, we proceeded to discuss the appearance of each website page to make the design as thoughtful and detailed as possible. This is where we decided to find a matching design for the sections and their content: Cybersecurity in Education, Cybersecurity at Work, Cybersecurity in Everyday Life, Cybersecurity in Entertainment and Communication, and Cybersecurity During War.

Content, Testing, and Launch
MINZMIN provided the website content. As experts in safe online behavior, they ensured users had access to the latest practices and the most relevant information.
Once the content was put in place by our content editors, testing and soft launch followed. We rolled out the website to a limited audience to check if all technical aspects of its operation were on point—that helped us anticipate and prevent any issues that could arise after the public launch.
On the day the website officially went live, a press conference was held to inform a wider audience about how to safely learn, work, have fun, and perform everyday tasks online.

Technical Support
The website runs smoothly, and we provide technical support as needed. Also, we have set up a Google Analytics account to track visits and analyze user behavior.

Conclusions
Working on socially important projects is what makes us truly happy. Cyber Brama is our modest contribution to fighting the hybrid war, into which Ukraine and the rest of the free world were drawn.
